How is a Gas Collected using Upward Delivery?
A gas that is less dense than
air can be collected by
upward
delivery. Examples of gases that can
be
collected
by this method
are ammonia
and hydrogen.
A gas
jar is connected by a tube to the flask that
is giving off the gas as shown in the picture below.
The
gas that is less dense
than air rises
to the top
of the gas jar. The air in the gas
jar is
displaced until the gas jar
is filled with the collected gas.
