What does Quantitative and Qualitative mean?
In chemistry quantitative means describing a chemical
reaction
in terms of the amounts (quantities) of substances.
Qualitative means describing a chemical reaction
in terms of what it does.
For example, when magnesium burns in air,
a qualitative description would be
"Magnesium burns in
air with a
brilliant white flame
to form magnesium oxide"
a quantitative description would be
"10g of magnesium burns in
air
to form 16·67g of
magnesium oxide"
(see moles).
